PROCLAMATION HONORING
THE RED AND WHITE BALL
Whereas, the Red and White Ball is put on by
an
all-volunteer committee representing the
Sonoma Plaza Foundation which celebrates Sonoma Valley food and wine, and,
Whereas, more than $800,000 has been raised over the past 15 years with 100% going to the designated project or charity, and,
Whereas, in the Plaza alone, the ball has raised money for landscaping around city hall, shade trees and benches in the Grinstead Amphitheater, an upgrade of two quadrants of the plaza electrical system, trees down Broadway, benches in the park, and holiday lighting for City Hall, and,
Whereas, other non-profits receiving funds include Stand by Me Mentoring Center, Meals on Wheels, Friends in Sonoma Helping, the Ernest Holman Dog Park, Sonoma Valley Teen Center, and the Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers’ downtown mural project, and many others, and,
Whereas, after a year’s pause, the Red and White Ball will once again be raising funds to benefit the completion of a new backdrop structure for the Grinstead Amphitheater, complete with new lighting system.
Now therefore, I, Doug McKesson, Mayor of Sonoma, hereby recognize the Sonoma Plaza Foundation and their annual fund-raising event, the Red and White Ball, for contributions not only to the Plaza, but to the entire community, and invite everyone to attend this year’s Red and White Ball on August 12, 2006.
